You've Been to College Already?

I've got a college degree too and you know what, our education system is set up to provide worker bees for business, not to create entrepreneurs.

Now I know some people are critical of that but let's face it, most people are worker bees. As we move toward entrepreneurship our educational system will adjust, eventually.

Where Do I Get the Knowledge to Become an Entrepreneur?

How much do you actually know about starting up a business? I have a business degree and thought I knew a lot. I've talked to people with Masters and PhD business degrees from pricey schools and they thought they knew a lot.

We all agreed after IBI that we only knew how to be worker bees and mid-level management with trial by fire to get to upper management.

True business owners i.e. entrepreneurs almost without exception had a mentor. The mentor may have been family or they may have caught the eye of someone but they had a mentor. They learned a lot in school as we all did but they did not learn to be entrepreneurs in school.

There are seminars and training opportunities everywhere in varying degrees of quality. Most of them have some value. Many are mainly motivational.

Motivational does some good but lets face it, you mostly get all excited...but...they don't give you any specific blueprint that tells you what you need to do.

Some seminars target a specific area such as real estate, some are about the internet, etc.

But they are almost never about being an entrepreneur.

That's what you are when you start your own business, an entrepreneur. Considering what America was built on, entrepreneurship, it's pretty amazing we aren't taught it.

But you know what, it's really hard to teach. There are so many facets to being an entrepreneur that seminars just teach a specific area they can handle.

There is only one place I recommend for startups, inventors, and small business owners. IBI Colorado with Gale Connell.

Now Gale is affiliated with IBI Global/CEO Space and the training is actually through the parent organization but in my opinion, Gale is the perfect person to help you determine if the organization is a good fit for your business or dream.

I've attended IBI's training and it was phenomenal. IBI really brought home the fact that struggling with something you hate may work for you but probably won't. And you can turn your dreams into a successful business when you have the tools.

Donald Trump says it this way, "Your electricity might flow better through a different socket." Mr. Trump's electricity flows pretty well so I would assume he knows what he's talking about.

There is so much to say about IBI Colorado that it's overwhelming so I'll just tell you about one of the businesses that started through IBI.

Really Cool True Story

Wen Boley and Rebecca Hilton are a musical group called Twinflame. They sing modern celtic music and are truly wonderful. They are musicians and business was like the antichrist to them.

Gale Connell heard them sing and invited them to IBI Colorado. Needless to say, Wen and Rebecca were not interested. What does their music have to do with a business club???

Eventually, after about 6 months of emails from Gale, they came to a meeting (that's when I met them). They were able to see then for themselves that to be successful as musicians they had to treat their music as a business. So they went to the training in Los Angeles.

Over the next year Wen saw great improvement in the business end of Twinflame. He was able to raise money for Twinflame but was still not happy because he and Rebecca didn't want have their music hostage to raising money and touring. Their music is their passion.

That's when Wen realized that because of IBI Colorado he now knew how to start a business, he had contacts in every area he needed, and he also had a great product idea.

Wen had bought his son a used vehicle for his birthday and while cleaning massive amounts of pet hair off the seats realized he needed better pet hair removal, i.e. a giant Sticky Sheet instead of the small ineffective rollers he had. And thus a product is born.

StickySheets is a vehicle to raise capital so Twinflame can concentrate on their music without worrying about raising money. It is also a great pet hair removal product and will be a household name in the near future.

How many musicians do you know that can take a product idea, get product mockups done, set up the manufacturing both locally and overseas, set up the marketing both locally and overseas, set up the company structure, raise over a million dollars for startup costs, and talk to other CEOs in CEO language? And he made it look easy!

He didn't learn it at school. He didn't learn it touring the country as a musician. He learned it at IBI and so can you. Check this out!

Even if you don't have a product or service you can learn what to do when you do have one. You can establish contacts all over the world and find team members for your business that are world class. Or you can become an asset to someone elses dream as a team or board member.

This is where you discover what it really takes to be an entrepreneur!

You need to clarify your vision, create your business plan, make contacts for fulfillment and distribution, find sales team, find capital team, find marketing team, form partnerships and/or alliances, determine if you need patents, trade marks, service marks, or intellectual property, etc, etc, and then set up an exit plan.

WHEW

If this sounds boring and/or overwhelming I would have to agree. In most business classes and seminars it is exactly that. But IBI uses world class trainers and "Super Teaching" technology. There is no way I can explain Super Teaching. All I can say is:

  • You will not be bored.
  • You will learn what they are teaching.
  • You will not fall asleep during the sessions.
  • You will meet more people that week than you have met in the last 10 years.
  • You will establish contacts that will benefit you for the rest of your life.

If you are already an expert in all these areas don't go. If you suspect you may have some defeciencies, go. Almost everyone I know that has gone says it accelerated their business by 2-3 years minimum. Is that worth a week of your time?
