Most of the great religions throughout time have indicated we can affect our lives and surroundings through thought. Science however has indicated that our brains are much like a computer and as we age they become less efficient. In addition, as our brain cells die off they cannot be replaced and we slowly deteriorate and often end with dementia or Alzheimer’s.
Fortunately for all of us, and especially for those of us who are aging, science is constantly learning new things and neuroscience, the science of the brain, is finding astounding and revolutionary discoveries.
The power of the brain, your intelligence, is not determined by the number of brain cells you have but by the connections between the cells.
I don’t know how old you are but I learned that the neurons in your brain are linked together end to end. Then a minute electrical impulse jumps across the synapse between them. That’s how a message is carried.
BUT that’s WRONG. There are “Dendrite Spiny Protrusions” (DSP) that grow off the “spine” of every neuron toward other neurons. There may be hundreds of them on one neuron. They are created when you’re learning and they all make synaptic connections. AND this process continues on a daily basis whenever you are learning something new no matter what your age!
Now at the same time physics is making great strides in understanding quantum theory. Believe me quantum theory is strange, however, it is quantum theory that proves a universal consciousness or spirit (for more information on that topic read "The Science of Spirit" by O Frank ) and it is quantum theory that says we are all a part of that spirit!
Quantum theory also says we co-create our environment. Is that what the unconscious part of our brain is doing?
Back to neuroscience. Scientists believed they could determine where a given mental activity would be located in the brain. They were both right and wrong.
They did find a given location for a specific task, such as a math problem. The problem was that there were 6 areas i.e. an additional 5 areas of the brain in use. And the unexpected 5 areas were not conscious areas.
In other words, when the subject went to sleep, the other 5 areas continued working! Now you know how an answer just magically appears the next morning when you went to sleep wrestling with a problem.
NASA got into the picture with neuroscience too. After all, the mental stresses astronauts face in space are unusual. They did experiments with people wearing goggles that make everything look upside down.
Guess what, their brains flipped the pictures after 3-4 weeks or within 30 days! Everything looked right side up again even though the picture presented to them was upside down.
Psychologists have known for a long time that your subconscious, or nonconscious, is aware of information that your conscious mind may not recognize or be aware of. Your conscious brain can only recognize images that are stable for 50/1000ths of a second; however, your nonconscious mind recognizes images faster than brain neurons can travel.
Think about that. The 5/6ths nonconscious part of your brain can recognize an image faster than your brain's neurons can fire.
If that truly amazing information makes you go "huh?" and you want to know more check out "The Science of Spirit" because it explains weird stuff like that in laymans language you and I can understand.
Psychologists have also long known that we are susceptible to suggestions. In fact, if we hear something often enough, even though we know it is incorrect or wrong, we begin to believe it.
That's why every time President Bush mentions Saddam Hussein he mentions 9/11 in the same sentence. There is no relation between the two but the majority of Americans believe there is. Politicians (on both sides of the aisle) use this technique all the time to manipulate opinion because it works.
Prisoners of war have been turned with this method and people in abusive relationships believe they must remain in them because they are continually told the abuse is their fault.
WOW, what does that mean? Your subconscious or nonconscious mind cannot distinguish between truth and lies! AND this is 5/6ths of your brain power!
Now add your paradigm to this . Psychologists have found that your brain literally filters out information outside your paradigm. Without this filter we could not function because of the overload of incoming information.
One experiment done with kittens demonstrates this. They raised kittens from birth with NO VERTICAL LINES in their environment. All lines were horizontal.
When the kittens were grown they could not see vertical lines and would walk right into anything vertical even though there was nothing wrong with their eyes. They couldn’t see it!
We do the same thing mentally. I distinctly remember how many “foam green” cars and trucks appeared after I bought a foam green vehicle.
They had been there all along but I didn’t process the information consciously, it went directly into my subconscious. Once I focused in on the color it became recognizable to my conscious mind.
What does that say about potential opportunities that are all around us and seen by only a few?
So what does all of this information mean? Your nonconscious thoughts will determine your life and you can control your nonconscious thoughts with your conscious thoughts.
If you think negative thoughts, you build innumerable negative pathways in your brain. If you think positive thoughts, you build innumerable positive pathways in the brain.
Those pathways help determine your paradigm and if it is negative, you will filter out any positive information and consciously see only negative.
If your paradigm is positive you will consciously see positive information and opportunities. AND you can begin building those positive pathways today, even if you don’t believe it.
The choice is yours!
